Calendar of Upcoming Events - May 27, 2016 to June 10, 2016


A quick rundown of upcoming events: 



1.  International May Fest at Custom House Plaza across from Fisherman's Wharf (May 28, 29, and 30, 2016 - 11am to 7pm) 


May Fest has something to offer everyone.  This free 3 day festival Memorial Day weekend was created for the Monterey community by Andre Lengacher (Lugano Swiss Bistro, and founder of Monterey Oktoberfest) and his partner, Jess Arias (Carmel Print & Copy).   Attendees can browse an assortment of crafts made by local vendors,  enjoy an incredible array of international food along with a variety of beers such as Firestone (American), Spaten (German) and Stella (Italian), while enjoying nonstop live music provided by Kiki Wow Entertainment featuring bands of all genres such as Red Beans and Rice, Vibe Tribe, and The Alpine Trio.  




2. Memorial Day Pie Ride Starting at Monterey Wharf (72 miles) and Pezzini Farms (43 miles).  May is National Bike Month and to round out the month this Monday (May 30) why not celebrate with a Memorial Day Pie Ride to Gizdich Ranch in Watsonville. There are two starting points to choose from: Meet at Monterey Wharf at 8am for the 72 mile version, or join in at Pezzini Farms at 9am for the 43 mile loop.

3.  California Roots Music and Arts Festival at the Monterey Fairgrounds (May 27-29, 2016)

California Roots Festival described by its promoters as “more than just music; it’s a movement.  It’s a way of life.  It delivers a cosmic blend of good vibes, true happiness, family, peace, love and joy to all who enter…The moment you walk through the festival gates you enter a place separate from the outside world – a heavenly playground filled with sweet sunshine, amazing music, peaceful vibrations, and a strong sense that you just discovered the happiest place on earth.” This three-day reggae music fest includes Slightly Stoopid, Damian "Jr Gong" Marley, Rebelution, Michael Franti and more. Visit their site for tickets, camping, shuttles, parking, and lineup.      



4. Memorial Day Commemoration Event, May 30, 2016 

Carmel-by-the-Sea begins its commemoration with the ringing of the bell at the World War I Memorial Arch on Ocean and San Carlos at 11am.  The community proceeds to Devendorf park where wreaths will be laid at the war memorials by city dignitaries and military officials.  Afterward the American Legion Post in Carmel holds an open house for veterans, friends and family. Event is free.

Monterey, Colton Hall, 570 Pacific Street -Monterey County Pops will present a program of pops, patriotic and Americana favorites 2pm. Event is free.  




5. Castroville Artichoke Food and Wine Festival - Monterey County Fairgrounds (Saturday 10am - 6pm, Sunday 10am - 5pm) 

Everything you ever wanted to know about artichokes all under one roof at the Monterey Fair Grounds.  Agro 3-dimensional fruit and vegetable artwork, musical entertainment, children’s activities, cooking demonstrations (unique techniques for preparing artichokes), farmers market, unique crafts by artisans from throughout the country and your chance to hop on a bus and go out to the artichoke fields and talk to growers. For information on tickets visit their site.



6. Monterey Wine Festival - 20 Custom House Plaza by Fisherman's Wharf (June 3 - 5, 2016) 

Now in its 40th year the Monterey Wine Festival has established itself as the premier wine and food event in Monterey.  Guest will savor bites of wonderful foods that pair well with beers and spirits and sips of world class wines.  This year the festival will also feature cocktail camp, an entire array of craft spirits.  For tickets, times, and event packages please visit Eventbrite.

7.  La Merienda Monterey's 246th Birthday (June 4, 2016)

Located in the Memory Gardens behind Custom House in Monterey, La Merienda takes visitors back in time to the beginning of Monterey.  There will be a BBQ, entertainment, Mariachis, and Folklorico dancers.
