Friday July 22, 2016, baker and restaurateur Rich Pépe along with rancher and winemaker Jack Galante held Carmel-by-the-Glass, a Summer Fiesta Garden Party at the La Playa Carmel.

Almost a complete sell out at 300 tickets, this festive fun-filled community party benefited the Carmel Mission Foundation

The Carmel Mission Foundation was founded in order to restore, and preserve the Carmel Mission as well as the 11 historic structures and over 1,500 artifacts that make up the 22 acre Carmel Mission compound.

Guests strolled the lush garden's of the La Playa and were treated to sixteen tastings from local Carmel wine rooms and a wonderful fiesta feast by Aqua Terra Culinary.

Our first stop was the station offering tri-color tortilla chips, salsa roja, broccoli rabe with golden raisins and green salad.

We paired this with a 2014 Alexander-Smith Chardonnay and a 2013 De Tierra Russell Estate Chardonnay.

Next we visited the paella station.  Both choices of paella were delicious and offered in generous portions.

Classic Valencian Paella - saffron, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, mussels, clams, piquillo pepper, and peas.

Vegetarian Paella - saffron, green beans, cauliflower bell pepper, artichoke heart, spinach, and tomatoes.

We paired our paella with a 2014 Manzoni Chardonnay and 2014 Silvestri, Pinot Blanc, Il Campione.

As we enjoyed our second course, flavorful aromas drifted past our noises. Carnitas! While waiting in line, we chatted with other guests. The line wound through the lower garden past wine stations...

... Figge , Windy Oaks, Scheid, and Dawn's Dream...

We chose a tasting of the 2014 Dawn's Dream Pinot Alyssa to swirl and sip while we waited.

After filling our plates with two kinds of carnitas, Yucatan chicken and pork topped with old world beans, cilantro, onions, and tomatillo sauce, we grabbed a tasting of 2014 Galante Merlot and found a place by the pool

where Terry Shehorn & the Hornets entertained with smooth jazz.

Master of ceremony Maddox Haberdasher  got the crowd revved up

for the splashy synchronized swimming show put on by Bay Area Aqua Legs.

The members of Bay Area Aqua Legs are all mentors or coaches for Synchro Athletes with Disabilities (Synchro AWD).  Their performances raise awareness for AWD swimmers training and exhibitions.  It was a real treat to watch.

We topped off our evening with a tasting of Caraccioli Cellars Brut Cuvée bubbly.

Here are a few more highlights.

Don't miss Pépe and Jack's next Carmel-by-the-Glass benefiting Carmel Mission Foundation the Winter Holiday Party December 9, 2016.  Tickets go on sale today July 25, 2016!!!
