October is a busy month! Calendar of Upcoming Events in Carmel-by-the-Sea for October 1 - October 17, 2016



Carmel-by-the-Sea celebrates its 100th year this October 31, 2016.  The month of October is jam packed with events culminating with the spectacular Centennial Parade on Saturday, October 29th.  Former Mayor Clint Eastwood will be serving as Parade Grand Marshall, riding atop the Wells Fargo Stagecoach. More on the parade in our next calendar in two weeks. For now here is a run down of the highlights of the first two weeks of October.  

 2nd Annual Pumpkin Roll (October 1, 2016)



Back by popular demand with even more pumpkins to roll is the 2nd Annual Carmel-by-the-Sea Pumpkin Roll down Ocean Avenue. Free rolling pumpkins are generously donated by local businesses.  Pick one out (between 1 and 3pm or until all pumpkins are gone) from the cul de sac at Ocean Avenue and Santa Fe Street and roll away! 

The Robinson Jeffers Family Fall Festival (Saturday, October 1, 8:30am - 5pm)


A 100 year celebration of the births of Donnan and Garth. Forums will take place throughout the day at the Carmel Woman's Club at San Carlos and Ninth in Carmel. For more information visit here.  Also at the Carmel Woman's Club Monday, October 3, 2016 (2pm) New Member Tea with Former Mayor Sue McCloud.  Ms. McCloud with give an update on Carmel's Centennial Celebration and talk about her CIA career as well as give the gripping backstory of the Iran hostage crisis that led to the making of the film Argo.  Also on Monday, October 17, 2016  (2pm) - "Our Story" Carmel Woman's Club 91 years in Carmel with Historical Retrospective and Displays. 



PacRep's Carmel Shakespeare Festival (Outdoor Forest Theatre) September 29 through October 16, 2016 for days, times, and tickets visit here. Also at the Outdoor Forest Theatre performed by Tealen Thomas, "Jack London in Carmel in 1910" Saturday, October 15, 2016 (2:30pm).



Monterey Bay Oktoberfest -  Monterey County Fair and Events Center (October 1st & 2nd, 2016)  


Our good friends Andre and Nargis Lengacher, owners of the Lugano Swiss Bistro at the Carmel Barnyard, are putting on their 5th Monterey Bay Oktoberfest!!  Advanced sale price of $20 for Saturday noon to 6pm, $15 for Sunday (Family Day) noon to 7pm. Or come for both days for the bargain price of $30. Children under 12 are free. Day of tickets are $5 more. There will be live music, and dancing, and of course plenty of food and drink for purchase.


Sunset Center (October Events)


Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 3pm - (Sunset Center) the Carmel Music Society kicks off its 90th season with the Romeros Guitar Quartet. 

Wednesday, October 5, thru Monday, October 15, 2016 - (Sunset Center Marjorie Evans Gallery) Historic Carmel Photo Exhibit presented by the Carmel Centennial Committee. (Sunset Center North Gallery) "Then/Now: Carmel Heritage Celebrates the Mayors of Carmel."  Each of the 32 mayors of Carmel will have a plaque with a short biography about their life and a list of the major terms of events that happened during their time as mayor. 

Wednesday, October 5, 2016 - Harrison Memorial Local History Lecture Series (7pm Carpenter Hall at Sunset Center) Architect Erik Dyar talks about the work of John Thodos (1943 - 2009) famed Central Coast architect who is recognized for his invention of glass boxes as bay windows. Friday October 14, 2016 (8pm) Twyla Tharp Dance Company: 50th Anniversary Tour presented by Sunsets Presents and generously sponsored by Nancy & Bill Doolittle and Sue McCloud.  The Twyla Tharp Dance Company is known for its creativity combining different forms of movement - jazz, ballet and boxing to expand the boundaries of dance. "The History of Carmel Contemporary Architecture," - (October 7 thru October 31, 2016) Cherry Center for the Arts (Fourth and Guadalupe). Center is open Monday - Friday 11am - 4pm.  

"A Taste of Carmel" - (October 6 thru 9, 2016)
Put on by the Carmel Chamber of Commerce, the Taste of Carmel takes place over four days and features local food, wine, live music, and activities highlighting area restaurants and inns. For more information and tickets visit their event site.  Here are a few of the events.

Sunday, October 9, 2016 Book Signing River House Books 

The authors of the new release from Arcadia Publishing, Historic Homes and Inns of Carmel-by-the-Sea, will be on hand to sign copies of their book at River House Books located at 208 Crossroads Blvd - The Crossroads and Hwy 1, Carmel from 1 - 3pm.  Historic Homes and Inns of Carmel-by-the-Sea features 150 historic homes and inns of Carmel depicted in full color photography, along with interesting biographical and architectural details.  The book also includes a link to an interactive Google map providing the means for hours of self-guided walking tours of the village.   

"Centennial Fiesta" Saturday, October 15, 2016 (11:30am - 2pm) at the Carmel Presbyterian Church (Ocean and Junipero) 


This fiesta will feature Qaxacan band and buffet to benefit Harrison Memorial Library. For information contact Carmel Presbyterian 831/624-3878


Carmel-by-the-Sea Garden Club - Garden Tour (October 16, 2016)
The Carmel-by-the-Sea Garden Club presents A "Bee-utiful" Garden Tour & The Unique Boutique Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 11am to 3pm. Take a self guided walking tour of six private gardens and visit the Unique Boutique at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch Patio Barn which will feature a variety of one-of-a-kind stunning items.
